Introduce yourself:
My name is Von, and I embarked on this culinary journey during my final year of culinary school a decade ago. Upon graduation, I secured a position with Michelin-starred chef Christopher Lee, known for his expertise in Asian cuisine. It was during this time that I developed a profound appreciation for Asian flavor profiles. Since then, I have exclusively worked with Michelin-starred chefs, leading me to create my own concept, JamAsian.
The late nights spent crafting menus and experimenting with flavors for my private clients have yielded remarkable results; the reception to both the food and the concept has been overwhelmingly positive.
My motivation is deeply rooted in my past experiences. At the age of 16, I faced homelessness after being abandoned by my family. From that point until I was 19, I lived intermittently on the streets before finding refuge in a group home. Each day, I awaken with the memory of those challenges driving me forward. My determination and tenacity stem from this experience—not to prove others wrong, but to demonstrate the transformative power of faith, which has turned my life from despair to unprecedented blessings.
Today, I have the privilege of cooking for some of the wealthiest, most influential, and powerful individuals in the world, and that opportunity fuels my passion every single day.

JamAsian is a vibrant culinary concept that beautifully marries the rich, bold flavors of Jamaican cuisine with the delicate, intricate profiles of Asian cooking. Born from a decade-long culinary journey, this innovative fusion was inspired by a transformative experience during my final year of culinary school. After graduating, I had the privilege of working alongside Michelin-starred chef Christopher Lee, whose mastery of Asian cuisine opened my eyes to the nuances of flavor that characterize this diverse culinary landscape.
Through my experiences in the kitchens of Michelin-starred establishments, I cultivated a deep appreciation for the balance and harmony found in Asian dishes. JamAsian emerged as a creative outlet, allowing me to explore the dynamic interplay between Jamaican spices—like allspice and Scotch bonnet peppers—and the subtle layers of flavor typical in Asian cuisine, such as soy, ginger, and lemongrass.

What are you most excited for in partnering with Downtown Food Hall?
Honestly, to see the bare building " eggshell" and to see the process of the ideas actually come to life and seeing 1000-2500 people walking through the foodhall daily and us maximizing our potentials. That's what I'm really excited about!
